Rath comes to New Orleans with 15 years of NFL coaching and conditioning experience. From 2009-2015, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Detroit Lions. While with the Lions, Rath helped to start the annual Detroit Lions Strength and Conditioning Clinic in 2011, which was a forum for providing, sharing and exchanging information in the strength and conditioning community.

After spending one season with the Miami Dolphins (2016), Rath joined the Los Angeles Rams from 2017-2019. He was the Rams’ strength and conditioning coach for one season before being promoted to their director of strength training and performance. He also became known as Rams coach Sean McVay’s “Get-Back Guy” because McVay would stray too far onto the playing field.

Rath joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 as the team’s director of sports performance. After his first season, he was promoted to vice-president of player performance. He spent three seasons in Philly before they parted ways in 2023.

Now with Rath’s hiring, it looks like the Saints will be parting ways with Matt Rhea, who has been the team’s director of sports science since 2022.
