Savage Fans Pour Cold Water on Sergio Garcia’s Masters Ambitions; Predict LIV Golfer Has ‘Zero Chance’ of Winning

LIV golfer Jon Rahm started off the first round of the 2023 Masters with a four-putt double bogey. However, the Spaniard pulled up his socks after that and by the final round, his only goal left was not to hold his own on the back nine and well he did it successfully. This led to him finishing off with seven pars and two birdies, beating Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson by four strokes and earning the green jacket. Well, not to forget that even the runner-ups were players of LIV Golf.

Apart from him, there have been several other golfers from the breakaway league, like Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann, who have, both secured individual wins at LIV Golf this year and can emerge as top contenders for the Masters title, yet it seems like they have still not been forgiven for shifting their leagues. This year too, although less in number than last year, LIV golfers are to participate in Masters. They are still not appreciated, as a recent post by El Nino brought about a lot of criticism.

Being all in to win the Masters for the second time after 2017, Sergio Garcia recently took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account and shared a picture of the thirteen LIV golfers who will be a part of the tournament. In the picture, apart from him, there were golfers like Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Reed, the defending champion Jon Rahm, and all the rest. Showing off his confidence about the win this year, he even captioned the post, We’re coming for that green jacket @TheMasters”.

Sergio Garcia became one of the European stalwarts to resign from the DP World Tour, after making the move to LIV Golf in June 2022. However, since then, his run at the Masters has not been very great for him. Garcia finished at T23 in the 2022 edition. The following year, the 44-year-old could even make the cut.

This time’s championship will mark out to be a significant one for him. However, looks like the golf community is not very supportive of the players this year, and has showered the post with all sorts of demotivating comments.

The golf community accuses Sergio Garcia of being a traitor!

A lot of the fans, who once used to support the Spaniard, seem to have turned against him. This is because, a lot of the players including him, shifted to LIV Golf, and the speculations made are that they did it only for the money. One of them, taking to his performance from last year in the tournament, mocked him for only throwing around words, showing no action. He wrote:

Funny how the dude that has zero chance is the one yapping…

Some in the comments doubted the one-time Masters champion’s golfing ability and even alluded that his first win was also nothing but sheer luck and stated, U ain’t coming for jack s**t. Lucky you got one dude. Another questioned the reason that many ex-PGA Tour players gave when they chose to change their allegiance and left statements like, “You all took the bag and said it was for “the growth of the game.” How’s that working out? Seriously, I haven’t watched since you all left. Not about to start watching you now.”

The Spaniard failed to give out a decent performance last year at Masters. Finishing off the first round with a 74-over 2 and the 2nd round with a 77-over 5, with a total of 11 bogeys and just 4 birdies, he missed the cut in the third round. This resulted in him not going any further. Taking to that performance, one of them even commented, “Yall gonna remember to show up for the 4th round?? Guess u have to make the cut 1st though. Lol. Good luck.”

While another, frustrated with the move, simply commented, “Stay at home.” Although there were very few positive comments, there were some that were rooting for him. One of them, cheering the Spaniard up to go grab his second Masters win, wrote, “Yes Sergio!!!! Go get #2!!”.
