Seattle is getting its RB1 back for the team’s biggest game yet.
Running back Kenneth Walker III, who missed the past two games with an oblique injury, has no designation and will play Monday night against the Lions, head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Saturday.
The Seahawks are one of the NFL’s surprise 3-0 teams, and Walker’s return greatly increases their chances of surprising again versus Detroit by running their win total to four straight.
The third-year back ran for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ Week 1 win over the Broncos, cementing himself once again as a force to be reckoned with thanks to a number of powerful runs.
He departed late, however, which left Zach Charbonnet to fill the backfield void over the club’s next two games against the Patriots and Dolphins. Charbonnet found it tough sledding in New England, managing just 38 rushing yards, but he did score in the overtime victory before exploding for 91 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s blowout over Miami.
If he can keep that up in a complementary role to Walker, the duo could give Detroit a handful, much like David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs will certainly do facing Seattle’s defense on the other side.
Seattle enters Monday night now with its full backfield arsenal to go along with a wide receiving trio of DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett.
It’ll be a prove-it game in prime time for the upstart Seahawks against the 2-1 Lions, one of the conference’s two representatives in last season’s NFC Championship Game.
