Shocker: Cowboys request to interview Kellen Moore for head coach opening

Here’s a development that only everybody in the entire universe saw coming: the Dallas Cowboys are requesting permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coach opening.

This much according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Discussion of Moore landing in Dallas has been heating up since the Cowboys and Mike McCarthy parted ways earlier this week.

Moore’s ties to the Cowboys are obvious but we’ll list them again here anyway. He was a quarterback for them from 2015-2017 before transitioning to the coaching staff. Moore was the Cowboys’ quarterbacks coach in 2018 before being promoted to offensive coordinator and serving in that role from 2019 through 2022.

The Cowboys then “mutually parted ways” with Moore, who spent one year as the Los Angeles Chargers’ OC before landing in Philly as the Eagles’ play-caller in 2024.

Given the Eagles’ inconsistency on offense, some will not be so sad to see Moore leave if he gets a head coaching job. In addition to interviewing with Dallas, he’s also been requested by the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars. UPDATE: Moore will reportedly interview with the Jags on Friday and the Saints on Saturday. Moore will reportedly interview with the Cowboys “at some point this weekend.”

But the Eagles having yet another new offensive coordinator — their fourth in four years — in 2025 doesn’t seem ideal. Also, Moore previously had Dak Prescott playing at a pretty high level. It’s quite possible they’re a good fit together.

At the very least, we know there’s a chance Moore won’t be back with the Eagles in 2024. We’ll just have to wait and see if he actually gets hired away or not.
