The Chiefs Fall While Allen Gets the Call

Vikings Territory Breakdown
The 2024-25 NFL season came to a crashing climax (at least for the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs who were hoping for a three-peat), as the Philadelphia Eagles (whose fans may have made things come crashing down after the game) walloped KC in a good old-fashioned blowout of a Super Bowl. The final score was 40-22 and it did not fully represent just how one-sided this game was (until the stalwart Philly defense that made cream cheese out of the Kansas City offensive line let up on the gas). Patrick Mahomes looked lost, Travis Kelce was irrelevant, the Chiefs dynasty crumbled and a new dynasty appeared to be born before our eyes. The Eagles are world champs.
So what does that have to do with the Vikings? Well, for starters, those Eagles are the mountain that the 14-3, one-and-done Vikings team has to surmount next season to reach their goal of the final game. The Eagles, who got stronger as the playoffs progressed, are the new gold standard in the league and one a certain GM (Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah) and head coach (Kevin O’Connell, uh NFL Coach of the Year Kevin O’Connell) need to emulate in order to compete. In fact, the Eagles created a chasm between themselves and certainly the Vikings when it comes to defensive line dominance (illustrated by six sacks and 16 hurries of Mahomes without blitzing the Chiefs quarterback even once).
That’s where it begins for the Vikings in the offseason, and that’s where the discussion begins regarding the Vikings looking forward to next season on this installment of the Vikings Territory Breakdown Podcast. Your hosts— Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com—are on hand to layout just where the Vikings personnel needs to go next. And speaking of COY KOC, we will discuss the most recent awards for Purple persons, as Craig voted on them. And that includes the announcement of former Chief and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen being selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tune in to hear what Craig has to say about that big news.
