The good, the bad, and the ugly: Saints vs. Broncos

The Good: Honoring Drew Brees

Perhaps the only good thing about this game was inducting Drew Brees into the Saints Hall of Fame. Nothing really went right on the field, but the halftime festivities gave us a chance to reminisce on a better time when the Saints were one of the elite teams in the NFL and led by one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

The Bad: Defense

The Denver Broncos offense currently ranks 26th in the NFL in yards per game and 21st in points per game. Still the Saints defense allowed them to score 33 points and gain nearly 400 yards. This was just the second time rookie QB Bo Nix, and the Broncos had scored over 30 points this year. The Saints defense has some injuries but not nearly as many as the offense, but now will have to proceed without Paulson Adebo for the rest of the year as the Saints cornerback suffered a broken femur in Thursday’s loss.

The Ugly: Offense

The New Orleans Saints offense only managed 10 points on TNF, punting 6 times and turning it over twice (once on downs and once via sack fumble returned for a touchdown). While the Saints barely had any healthy starters on offense, you would still like to see a bit more from them given how they looked early in the season and that they were playing at home. The Broncos defense is very good, as they rank 3rd in the league in yards allowed per game and points allowed per game, but the Saints offense still looked dismal in a game they needed to win against their former head coach.
