Thousands of athletes registered for record-breaking Challenge Barcelona

With just one month to go until the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon 2024, the event is shaping up to be one of the largest yet, featuring a strong line-up of international and national professional triathletes.

The event has already attracted nearly 3,000 participants and is nearing its cap of 3,500. Registrations will close on Wednesday, October 30, or once the maximum number of participants is reached.

Olympian Justus Nieschlag (GER) leads the men’s professional field, following a third-place finish at Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee. Joining him is Samuel Dickinson (GBR), who recently secured his first middle-distance win and earned a bronze medal in the Mixed Relay at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Tom Hug (GER), winner of Challenge St. Pölten 2024, and Guillem Montiel (ESP), who won Challenge Salou 2024 and placed sixth at the European Middle Distance Championship, round out a strong line-up of male professionals.

In the women’s race, Jessica Learmonth (GBR), Tokyo 2020 Olympic Mixed Relay gold medalist, leads the field. She will face tough competition from Imogen Simmonds (SUI), last year’s winner and runner-up at T100 London. Also competing are Caroline Pohle (GER), the 2024 Ironman 70.3 European Champion, and Els Visser (NED), who placed third at Challenge Roth this year and has also won Challenge Taiwan and Challenge Wanaka.

With such a strong line-up and exciting changes to the course, the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon 2024 promises to offer an unforgettable experience for both athletes and spectators.

The course takes participants through the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cities, with the unforgettable backdrop of the Sagrada Familia along the bike route. A major update for 2024 is the redesigned running course, which offers a faster, smoother circuit with uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea. The new layout reduces the number of 180º turns, improving the experience for athletes and enhancing race times.
