Week 6 Sit/Start against Tampa Bay

The New Orleans Saints lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, falling to 2-3. While the loss was somewhat anticipated, it could have been avoided to a degree with a revised game strategy. The Saints could have had a major Monday night upset, if the playbook was tweaked just a tad. The team’s performance and injuries especially to QB Derek Carr contributed to the defeat and negatively impacted fantasy point totals. Facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next, Saints fans may see another drop in scoring from their favorite players. Let’s take a look.

Taysom Hill-Sit

Hill (ribs) is officially out for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. This is a significant blow to the Saints’ offense, especially with Spencer Rattler stepping in for injured Derek Carr. If Hill had been healthy, he would have likely played a more prominent role. Unfortunately, his next opportunity to suit up is on Thursday against the Broncos, and given his limited practice time this week, it seems unlikely he’ll be ready for that game either.

Derek Carr-Sit

A major blow for the Saints this week. Carr’s oblique injury is labeled “week-to-week” with no clear return date. Rookie Spencer Rattler gets the Week 6 nod over Haener. While Carr will regain the starting job eventually, that “eventually” could leave the Saints in a deep hole by the time he’s healthy. Not exactly the confidence boost they needed facing the Bucs.

Spencer Rattler-Start

Rattler now starting due to Derek Carr’s injury. This can be the beginning of the young QB’s journey. This opportunity can either break or propel him with the Saints. Let’s hope that he establishes a good chemistry with his time behind the snaps. The rookie fifth-round NFL Draft pick from South Carolina impressed the Saints’ coaching staff during training camp, but his preseason stats against mostly backup talent did not give us much to go off. Although he did complete 20 of 38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, as well as ran for 26 yards and a score, and recovered a fumble.

Alvin Kamara-Sit

Kamara, who is dealing with hip and hand injuries, remains a question mark for Sunday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite missing practice earlier in the week, Kamara was able to avoid an injury designation and is expected to play. However, given the team’s other offensive struggles, including quarterback Derek Carr’s oblique injury and a depleted offensive line, Kamara’s fantasy value may be limited. While the Buccaneers’ defense has been weakened by injuries, their recent improvements could pose a challenge. If you have another high profile running back on your roster, I suggest that option.

Rashid Shaheed-Sit

Shaheed (hip) also did not have a designation on the injury report for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay, while this might seem like good news, it’s worth noting that Shaheed’s limited practice sessions earlier in the week raised some concerns. With rookie Spencer Rattler stepping in for the injured Derek Carr, Shaheed’s usual role might not be as productive as fantasy managers might hope for.

Chris Olave-Start

Considered as the Saints’ top wide receiver, Olave, had a quiet day against the Chiefs’ star slot corner, Trent McDuffie. Despite seeing more targets than usual, Olave’s production was limited. However, as Olave has consistently delivered solid performances in recent weeks. Look for him to bounce back against the Buccaneers in Week 6. Rattler and Olave could produce a solid combo in the absence of Carr.

Juwan Johnson-Start

Johnson showcased increased involvement in Monday’s game, leading to a season-high 31 receiving yards on five catches. Not impressive but solid. His playing time also saw a significant boost, reaching 78 percent of the snaps. While he fell short of finding the end zone for the fourth consecutive game, Johnson’s performance hints at a growing role within the Saints’ passing attack. Johnson could see more fantasy point possibilities, potentially benefiting from a more run-focused approach. With Shaheed possibly not seeing much field time and Hill being out, Rattler will definitely need another target outside of Olave.

We know this week doesn’t feel as much of an exciting week for point production due to injuries, but who do you have starting this week on your fantasy line-up? Let us know in the comments below.
