‘Welp, We’re Getting Swept’ – Senators Fans Ready to Surrender After Game 3 Overtime Loss to Maple Leafs

The Ottawa Senators played their first home game on Thursday night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since their Game 6 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in May 2017 as part of the Eastern Conference Final.

Unfortunately, the provincial rival Toronto Maple Leafs spoiled the party atmosphere of the (mostly) pro-Senators crowd at Canadian Tire Centre.

Defenseman Simon Benoit scored just minutes into overtime, giving the Maple Leafs a 3-2 victory and securing a 3-0 series lead. Toronto is now just one victory away from punching their ticket to the second round of the postseason for just the second time since 2004 (which, coincidentally, was also against the Senators.)

Senators Fans Ready to Surrender After Game 3 Overtime Loss to Maple Leafs

Following the painful overtime loss, Senators fans vented on social media and seemed to sense that their season is on the verge of ending.

One fan seemed to sense a sweep was inevitable, saying, “Welp, we’re getting swept.”

Another Senators fan expressed their frustration over losing to a bitter rival, saying, “7 years of pain just to be swept in the first round by the Leafs.”

This fan followed up on the previous comment, saying, “Waited 8 years for this… This is what you give us? Really? Really? Great, we made the playoffs but there’s more to it than just making it. Honestly I’m more than disappointed at this point.”

Yet another fan followed in their footsteps by saying, “I could’ve waited another year or two for a better show. This is just humiliation. We’ve outplayed them probably 6 or 7/9 periods excluding OT and it’s 3-0. I’m speechless…”

However, this fan seemed to have a more positive big picture outlook, saying, “Not the outcome we were hoping for. This is our first year in the playoffs and against a much more experienced team. We’ll learn from it and be better for it.”

Finally, this fan was also ready to call it quits, saying, “It’s over. I’m sad…. thanks for the ride this season.”

Senators Coach Travis Green Vows Series Is Not Over Just Yet

Despite the disappointing loss, Senators coach Travis Green vowed that his club would be ready to play in Game 4, which could potentially be the final game of the series.

“Whether you’re up 3-0 or down 3-0, for me, the next game is the most important one,” said Green. “I don’t think we have to worry about winning four in a row. That’s what every coach is going to say.

“One thing I know about our team is they’re not going to lie down. We’re not going to go away, we’re going to be ready to play.”

Game 4 is scheduled for Saturday night starting at 7:00 PM EST.
