White Sox add righty reliever Brebbia on 1-year deal (source)
The White Sox bolstered their bullpen Saturday by agreeing with right-hander John Brebbia on a one-year contract, a source told MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi. The club has not confirmed the deal.
Brebbia, 33, turned in a 3.99 ERA across 40 appearances (38 1/3 innings) with the Giants last year. However, thanks to an xwOBA of .280 — Brebbia’s best since 2019 — his expected ERA was only 3.33. He also registered a career-best 29.2% strikeout rate.
Before spending the past three seasons with San Francisco, Brebbia began his big league career with three seasons in St. Louis, where he compiled a 3.14 ERA and averaged 54 appearances per year. He led the National League with 76 appearances in 2022 and has made 21 starts as an opener over the past two years.
