Who Is Keith Peterson? UFC 309 Referee for Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler, and Victim of Multiple Controversies
UFC 309 has been full of action. In the middle of that action has been referee Keith Peterson, some of whose decisions have been a bit controversial. Fans will remember the former fighter turned referee’s controversial call to stop the fight between Dominick Cruz and Henry Cejudo in 2020 with just two seconds to go in the second round.
Cruz, who lost the fight, had accused the American referee of ‘smelling like alcohol’, and even subsequently called for him to be fired subsequently. Well, UFC 309 saw fair few controversial decisions that didn’t go down well with the UFC world.
For instance, in the co-main event between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler, he was accused of letting ‘Iron’ get away with multiple shots to the head, and letting both men grab the fence multiple times. In addition, some pointed out he didn’t act on glove grabs and eye pokes during the fight.
Strikes to the back of the head
Multiple fence grabsI don’t want to take away from the heart and determination of those lads but the ref has had a shocker #UFC309
