Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer will be getting a free content update this year (probably)

Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer, winner of Destructoid’s prestigious “game on Zoey Handley’s favorites of 2023 list,” uh, award, will be getting a heap of free content this year, according to a tweet from BigZ Studios CEO Zane Lofton.

You might be asking, “How could you possibly make Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer even better?” You probably can’t, but you can add some extra toppings. Zane says that the update will include new maps, enemies, bosses, cutscenes, and a new weapon. Those are all great things to have more of.

Released in June 2023, Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer is a spin-off of Hypnospace Outlaw. Like its progenitor, Slayers X aims to accurately capture a specific and awkward part of technology’s history. It is presented as a mod for a late ‘90s shooter made by one of the more central characters of Hypnospace Outlaw. In the process, not only does it manage to present the charm of that era of mods, but it also works incredibly well as a narrative character piece, exploring its central protagonist indirectly through a product of their imagination.

While I didn’t pick an individual Game of the Year, I did state that it would have gone to Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer. As someone with a high opinion of their own opinion, that’s high praise. Immediately after spending so much time writing about it for year-end, I immediately dove back in for another playthrough, and couldn’t help but admire how right I am. It’s really an incredible title. The game is good too!

Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
