The Chicago Bears need to find a way to take some pressure off of Caleb Williams, and I have come to the conclusion that adding a top running back could be the difference maker for the Bears.
The Bears currently hold the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and if Ashton Jeanty is there the Bears need to run up to the podium and select him. The Chicago Bears should consider adding Ashton Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft for several reasons, and I will break them down now.
Versatility and Playmaking Ability: Jeanty is a dynamic running back who can make an impact both on the ground and in the passing game. His ability to contribute as a pass-catcher out of the backfield would add a valuable dimension to the Bears’ offense. This will help rookie quarterback Caleb Williams out, and adds another dimension. Jeanty’s agility, vision, and speed make him a dual-threat who can take the ball to the house on any given play.
Speed and Quickness: Jeanty has impressive burst and can change direction on a dime. His lateral agility allows him to avoid tacklers and gain significant yardage after contact. With Williams ability to extend plays, adding a back with Jeanty’s skill set would open up more opportunities in both the running and short-pass game.
Complement to D’Andre Swift: The Bears currently have D’Andre Swift as a key piece of their backfield, but adding a versatile, explosive back like Jeanty could help create a more balanced and unpredictable running game. Having a one-two punch in the backfield, especially one that can both run and catch, would take some pressure off Williams on early downs.
Long-Term Investment: With the Bears likely focusing on rebuilding their offense around Williams, adding a young, explosive running back like Jeanty would give them a solid piece for years to come. Jeanty could potentially grow into a featured back or a key playmaker in an evolving offense that continues to develop under Williams’ leadership.
Improving Offensive Balance: The Bears need to improve their overall offensive consistency, and adding a player who can be effective in both the running game and as a receiving option would allow them to open up more diverse schemes. This would not only help Williams but also make it harder for opposing defenses to predict the play calling.
Look at the Eagles and the addition of Saquon Barkley! The Bears are in good shape, but I feel Jeanty could be huge for them.
In short, Jeanty’s playmaking ability, versatility, and potential to complement Caleb Williams would make him a great fit for the Bears as they continue to build around their young quarterback.
