Dakota Johnson & More to Star in Colleen Hoover’s Verity Film
‘It Ends With Us’ Star Justin Baldoni Shares Where He Really Stands on a Sequel (Exclusive)
Colleen Hoover‘s work in Hollywood isn’t ending anytime soon.
One month, after the author confirmed that Anne Hathaway would star in the upcoming film adaptation of her novel Verity, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett are also joining the CoHo Cinematic Universe.
The story follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who was hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh) to complete the remaining novels in a best-selling villain series after his wife Verity Crawford (Anne) could not do so due to a mysterious accident. As Lowen begins research for the book, she learns a series of chilling Crawford family secrets that make her second-guess the decision to take on the task.
E! News has reached out to reps for Dakota and Josh and has not heard back.
Meanwhile, Colleen gushed over the news, writing on Instagram Dec. 20, “Excited is an understatement.”
The latest update comes after the 45-year-old confirmed Anne was joining the film, which is set to be directed by The Idea of You‘s Michael Showalter, on Instagram.
“Verity is coming to theaters,” she wrote last month. “I am so excited for this cast and the script and the director and the whole team bringing this to life. Cannot wait. More coming soon!”
It’s been an exceptionally strong year for the author, whose 2016 novel It Ends With Us was adapted into a film starring Justin Baldoni, Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar. In fact, Colleen couldn’t help but reflect on her expansive career during the major milestone.

“I started writing this book a decade ago,” she wrote on Instagram in May. “A lot has changed in the last ten years. But the support you guys have shown time and time again is unwavering. Sure, the book world is a little bit louder now and a little bit more chaotic, but it is full of love, good intentions, cheerleaders and some of the best friends I’ve ever made. When I say I am floored by the way you all showed up today. WOW.”
“This book has been surrounded by actors and filmmakers who have worked very hard to do right by all of you,” she continued. “To improve what I didn’t know a decade ago and to preserve everything about it that is important to you. I can’t wait for you guys to see it. Thank you for today. And every day.”
